New Delhi:
Congress on Thursday asked the Central Bureau of Investigation to investigate what it called the Rs 1,700-crore Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana “scam” in Manipur and demanded tough action against ministers involved in the graft.
In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Manipur Assembly chairman K Meghachandra said the PMGSY ‘road scam’ in Manipur was still being uncovered by his Congress team under his leadership along with the media. Been visiting the inner parts of the hills for the past few months, areas like Churachandpur, Noney and Kamjong.
He claims that after inspecting several roads, it was found that although funds had been allocated and their work done, no work had been done.
Rs 1,700 crore for PMGSY was siphoned off under the BJP’s glorified twin-engine government in Manipur, Ningombam Bupenda Meitei, speaker of the Manipur state assembly, told a news conference here.
Bhakta Charan Das, AICC in charge of the state, claimed that the funds had been used by the BJP to fight the election.
In his letter, the chairman of the Manipur state assembly said the Rs 1,700 crore “scam” must be investigated and justice must be done for the people.
He said there must be a CBI investigation into the whole “PMGSY road scam” and while the investigation is pending, the relevant or implicated minister should be removed from office.
Meghachandra also requires FIR registration of one or more ministers, chief engineer, relevant officials, contractors, companies and intermediaries or any other relevant persons.
Despite confirming that the work on record was completed, Congress also demanded that the entire amount withdrawn without the on-site works be recovered.
The party also called for the blacklisting of relevant contractors or companies from being eligible to apply for any tender for any project nationwide for at least 10 years.
