The 2022 FIFA World Cup ended on Sunday with Argentina crowned champions. The South American nation beat France 4-2 (3-3) on penalties at the summit to lift the coveted trophy after a 36-year hiatus. The victory added a new feather to Lionel Messi’s decorated cap as he successfully carried on the legacy of the late Argentine great Diego Maradona. However, the 2022 FIFA World Cup is now over, but the essence of this prestigious sporting event lives on among fans, as well as non-football franchises.
Big Bash League side Sydney Sixers shared a hilarious Instagram post on Thursday in which they announced the mock signing of Lionel Messi.
“Just in: Sydney 76ers achieve success of the century by signing new bench player for tonight’s SCG game,” the 76ers wrote in the post.
But that’s not the end of the story. Events got more interesting after Big Bash League commented on the post and wrote: “Should sign CR7 (Cristiano Ronaldo) and change your name to SIUUUxers.”
