Since the Indian cricket team was eliminated from the 2022 T20 World Cup, questions have been raised about the team’s captaincy in its shortest form. Some wondered whether Hardik Pandya would be the ideal man to lead the team, taking the baton from Rohit Sharma.

Earlier, a report from PTI suggested that Hardik is likely to lead India in the T20Is against Sri Lanka. However, according to the report, the decision was not made as part of the team’s T20I reshuffle, but rather the fact that Rohit is yet to fully recover from his thumb injury.
“This matter is not even on the agenda of the Apex committee, nor is it discussed in the forum. Only the selection committee can decide whether to be captain,” a BCCI official told PTI on condition of anonymity.
However, India’s T20 structure could change entirely and the all-rounder Hardik, who has shown his leadership qualities with the Gujarat Titans, is considered an ideal replacement.
