Hardik Raj: Broadcaster’s Ind vs SL series promotion leaves fans wondering

After a successful 2-match series against Bangladesh, Indian cricket is ready to embark on a new mission to take on Sri Lanka in a bilateral series. The series against the Islanders kicks off with a T20I mission, the lineup of which has yet to be announced. However, there has been speculation that the team announcement could see Hardik Pandya Promoted to the role of T20I Captain. Fans even felt that the Indian anchor, Star Sports’ T20I series of promos hinted at this.

Since the Indian cricket team was eliminated from the 2022 T20 World Cup, questions have been raised about the team’s captaincy in its shortest form. Some wondered whether Hardik Pandya would be the ideal man to lead the team, taking the baton from Rohit Sharma.

To promote India’s upcoming T20I series against Sri Lanka at home, Star Sports captioned a video featuring the all-rounder: “.@hardikpandya7 ready to start the new year with a run for the Asian T20I title! # BelieveInBlue and get ready to witness some action in this new #TeamIndia under the Hardik ‘Raj’ Mastercard #INDvSL series | Kicks off Jan 3rd | Star Sports & Disney+Hotstar.”

Here are some reactions from fans:

Earlier, a report from PTI suggested that Hardik is likely to lead India in the T20Is against Sri Lanka. However, according to the report, the decision was not made as part of the team’s T20I reshuffle, but rather the fact that Rohit is yet to fully recover from his thumb injury.

“This matter is not even on the agenda of the Apex committee, nor is it discussed in the forum. Only the selection committee can decide whether to be captain,” a BCCI official told PTI on condition of anonymity.

However, India’s T20 structure could change entirely and the all-rounder Hardik, who has shown his leadership qualities with the Gujarat Titans, is considered an ideal replacement.
