The uncle of 20-year-old actor Tunisha Sharma who allegedly committed suicide today questioned her ex-boyfriend Sheezan Khan’s comments about their split over religious differences. If he’s worried about that, “then why is he doing all this,” Pawan Sharma asked. He also questioned whether there was a breakup. “If that’s the case, then why do they have lunch together every day? Alone, in a room? What’s that about? If it’s broken up, why are you spending time with her?” he said.
Tunisha Sharma’s body was found on December 24 in the washroom of Vasai’s TV show “Alibaba: Dastan-e-Kabul” near Mumbai. Sheezan Khan, who claims he broke up with her two weeks before her death, has been arrested for abetting.
During questioning by the Maharashtra police, Sheezan Khan said he ended the relationship after seeing the aftermath of Shraddha Walkar’s murder, allegedly by her live-in boyfriend Aaftab Poonawala.
The murder has sparked controversy, with some top leaders calling it a “love jihad” – a term coined by the right to describe the relationship between many different faiths. Part of the right believes Muslim boys deliberately lure Hindu girls into relationships to ensure their conversion.
Sheezan Khan said he told Tunisha Sharma that belonging to different communities held them back, as did their eight-year age gap, ANI news agency reported.
Asked what the family’s position was – whether they wanted Tunisa to marry Sheezan Khan, Pawan Sharma said his niece never made it clear that they were related. “She said they were good friends,” he said.
“I was told that Sheezan said he broke up with her because of religious differences. So why did you start all this? Three months, they were together? Why did you let her see your mother? His mother and sister used to give She calls, they talk a lot … if you’re from a different community and you know you’re not going to make it, why?” he told NDTV.
Mr Sharma said Tunisha’s mother had advised Sheezan Khan against inaction.
“She asked if it was a casual relationship, so why did he go so far? One shouldn’t take it to the point where another person gets hurt and does something,” he added. Tunisha Sharma’s mother told NDTV earlier that Sheezan cheated on her daughter
Pawan Sharma also said the police’s preliminary conclusion of Tunisha’s suicide may not be final. “We don’t know exactly what happened. The police will say it was a suicide or something… Nobody knows what happened between them. If the investigation is done properly, it will come out,” he added.
