The second most expensive acquisition in Indian Premier League history, Australian all-rounder Cameron Green, has been modest about his Rs 17.5 million take, saying he “didn’t do much” to deserve the kind of money he earned during the players auction. The 23-year-old enjoyed an amazing week after winning the bid with Mumbai Indians, adding Rs 175 crore to his fortune. The towering bowler took his maiden five-ball test in the Test on Monday and shattered South Africa’s batting squad with a 189 for the visitors on the first day of Tests on Boxing Day.
Green said the big bonus won’t change him or the way he plays cricket.
“To be fair, I don’t think I did much to get that,” Green said.
“I just put my name in the auction and it happened. It doesn’t change who I am, what I think and all my faith in cricket. Hopefully I haven’t changed too much,” he added.
Green was the second-most expensive buyer at the auction in Cochin after a bidding war between Delhi Capitals, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mumbai Indians. England’s Sam Curran became the most expensive auction buyer in IPL history when he sold to the Punjab Kings for Rs 185 crore.
For a generalist like himself, workload management is the key to longevity, Green said. The youngster, who has had to reduce his bowling load due to lower back complaints, added that the key is prioritization if one wants to be both a batsman and a bowler.
“I think your priorities change. When you’re just a bowler, you’re very careful in your bowling. You have that rhythm because you basically play 20 innings. That’s probably the main difference (vs. between bowlers and an all-rounder).
“If you’re trying to do both, it’s hard. You have to try and prioritize one because if you try too hard at both, you put too much pressure on yourself,” Green said .
He added that before games, he would prioritize batting and on game days, he would pay more attention to bowling.
“In the weeks leading up to a game, I try to prioritize my batting. Then on match day, you hit a lot of balls that week, so it’s prioritizing your bowling and conditioning your body to support everything you’re doing. Before practice,” Green said. PTI morning morning ah ah ah ah
