IIFA 2023: Gangubai Kathiawadi and Alia Bhatt lead nominations

Alia Bhatt’s two blockbuster films for 2022 – “Gangubai Kathiwadi” with “Brahmastra Part I: Shiva” — Leading the nominations for the upcoming International Indian Academy of Film (IIFA) Awards.

Organizers of the IIFA Awards on Monday announced the nominations for the Hot Category for the 23rd edition, which will be held on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, UAE in February 2023.

“Gangubai Kathiwadi” Nominated in eight categories, including Best Actor (Female) for Alia Bhatt, Best Picture and Best Director for Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

Apart from winning Best Director, Sanjay Leela Bhansali is also a contender for Best Music Director.

The film is based on a chapter in the book by renowned author Hussain Zaidi, “Queen of the Bombay Mafia”Vijay Raaz won Best Supporting Actor, Best Soundtrack Artist (female), Best Story (Adaptation) and Best Lyrics.

The nominees for Best Story (Adaptation) are Aamil Keeyan Khan and Abhishek Pathak (“Drishyam 2”), Shussein Zaidi and Jan Borges (“Gangubai Kathiawadi”), Yogesh Chandkar (“Monica my dear”)madawan (“Rocket: The Nanby Effect”)and Pushkar, Gayatri and Bafidha (“Vikram Veda”).

Nominees for Best Music Direction also include Pritam (“Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2”) with “Brahma Part I: Shiva”), off and savera (“Gehraiyaan”), Tanishk Bagchi, Posy, Kanishk Seth and Vishal Shelke (“Jugjugg Jeeyo”).

Shreya Ghoshal has two nominations in the Best Replay Vocalist (Female) category “Rasia”(“Brahmastra Part I: Shiva”) with”Jab Saiyaan” (“Gangubai Kathiawadi”).

Jonita Gandhi for the song “Deva Deva” (“Brahmastra Part One: Shiva”), losika for “Doobey” (“Gehraiyaan”) with Kavita Seth’s “Rangi Sari” (“Jugjugg Jeeyo”) are other nominees in the same category.

Arijit Singh has two nominations for Best Replay Singer (Male) – “Xarya” with “Deva Deva” (“Brahmastra Part One: Shiva”). Also up for the award is Mohit Chauhan “Gehraiyaan” (repeated) (“Gehraiyaan”)Kanishk Seth for “Rangi Sari” (“Jugjugg Jeeyo”) and Aditya Rao “Behney Do” (“Rocket: The Nambi Effect”).

Best Lyric nominee is Varun Grover “Atak Gaya Hai” (“Badhaai Do”), Amitabh Bhattacharya “Kesariya” (“Brahmastra Part One: Shiva”), Am Turaz for “Jab Saiyaan” (“Gangubai Kathiawadi”), Ankur Tewari “Gehraiyaan” (“Gehraiyaan”) and Raj Shekhar “Behney Do” (“Rocket: The Nambi Effect”).

Actors Abhishek Bachchan, Farhan Akhtar and Maniesh Paul will host the ceremony.

The annual event is held in partnership with the Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT Abu Dhabi) and Miral, Abu Dhabi’s lead curator of immersive destinations and experiences.
