We’ve all heard of restaurants, hotels, and cloud kitchens being rated based on their food quality, hygiene, decor, and various other parameters. But have you ever heard of prisons being rated based on the quality of their food? Yes, you read that right. A prison in Uttar Pradesh recently received a 5-star rating for providing quality food to inmates. Bulandshahr Prison in Uttar Pradesh has been awarded a 5-star rating and the ‘Eat Right School’ label by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), according to a report by ANI.
According to an official release, a team of inspectors from FSSAI investigated kitchens, storerooms, hygiene levels and, of course, food quality. Strict measures were taken in this inspection.This place was licensed on every one of these factors before being given a rating and label, except for the “excellent” reviews FSSAI.

The press release further reads that officers and prisoners were involved in landscaping, cleaning and food safety“Staff also use clean aprons, long-sleeved gloves and hats to prepare food,” the report adds. The ANI report further states that Prison Superintendent Anand Kumar advised all to make constant efforts “in preparation of food.” hygiene, quality and cleanliness at all times”.
Earlier this year, Fatehgarh Central Prison in Farrukhabad district of Uttar Pradesh received a 5-star rating from FSSAI for the quality of its food. According to reports, Farukabad Prison has largely automated the food preparation process. Prison kitchens have everything from kneading utensils to meat broilers and vegetable cutters.
