Ukraine’s Zelensky says nearly 9 million people without power

However, Zelensky said the number and duration of outages were gradually decreasing.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Monday that power shortages persisted, with nearly 9 million people still without power.

In his evening video address, Zelensky said power workers repairing the power grid after repeated Russian attacks had reconnected many people over Christmas, but the problem remained.

“Naturally, shortages persist. Power outages continue,” he said.

“As of tonight, the situation in different parts of Ukraine is that almost 9 million people are without power. But the number and duration of outages is gradually decreasing.”
