New Delhi:
Ayush Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said on Saturday that India will have to provide scientific evidence on the efficacy of its traditional medicine system to increase its global acceptance.
“Through research, we have to show the world scientific evidence of the efficacy of our traditional medical system in humans,” Sonovar said at the international conference on “Public Medicine in Unani”.
Mr Sonowal urged Unani and researchers from other Indian systems of medicine to strengthen the scientific basis of their system.
“Our acceptance of various Indian systems, including Unani Medicine, will depend on sound scientific explanations of the underlying theory and specific advantages of these systems,” he said.
The minister said the government is committed to supporting traditional medicine practices in the country and has received a significant increase in budgetary allocations to the Ayush Ministry.
“The Ministry of Ayush is promoting Unani medicines in the national public healthcare system through regulatory studies and integration of quality products, practices and practitioners into the health system,” Mr Sonowal said.
The two-day conference was held on Unani Day, which commemorates the birthday of Hakim Ajmal Khan, widely regarded as the pioneer of Unani medicine in India.
“Our rich traditional medical practice can provide us with sustainable healthcare solutions that will help enrich human life in the country,” Law Minister Kiren Rijiju told the meeting.
