Ashok Gehlot dismisses small split with Sachin Pilot ahead of polls

With parliamentary elections in Rajasthan later this year still months away, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Saturday dismissed divisive talks with Sachin Pilot, while adding “small differences” like “all political parties”. Happens constantly in Congress.

In an attempt to show unity in the party, Gehlot said that the leaders in Congress contest and win the elections together and will do so in the upcoming polls as well.

He was speaking to reporters after meeting Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge in the capital.

“There are no divisions … we keep having small divisions in our party, it happens with all parties in every state. But together we will go to elections, win and form government,” Gehlot said.

He said the party would continue its tradition of accepting decisions from the party’s supreme command.

“We go to elections together, we win them, and then we accept the decision of the high command. That’s the tradition and it will continue to be the tradition,” the chief minister said.

Notably, General Secretary KC Venugopal demonstrated unity in the Rajasthan Congress last November, reiterating Rahul Gandhi’s statement describing Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot as “party assets” while trying to Send a message that the party is supreme and state leaders united to win the 2023 parliamentary elections.

The party tried to send a message to resolve the ongoing crisis as rivals stood together holding hands to demonstrate optics, days after Ashok Gehlot called Sachin Pilot a traitor.

“We are united. Here, Ashok Ji and Sachin Pilot Ji are saying that Congress in Rajasthan is united. Rahul Gandhi has made it clear that both Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot are assets of the party,” Venugopal said.

Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has said that the message from the top of Congress to the grassroots has driven leaders to work together.

“Rahul Gandhi said yesterday that Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot are party assets. The hallmark of our party is that when the leaders send out a message, it goes down to the grassroots and we work together for the progress of the party,” Gehlot had said .

Acknowledging the challenge of the 2023 Assembly elections in Rajasthan, the Chief Minister said that it is essential for the party to win elections, adding that the DNA of Congress and the country is the same.

“We have the challenge of the 2023 Assembly elections in Rajasthan. It is essential for us to win the elections, it is for the country’s welfare. If Congress is strong, only then the future of the country will be strong because the challenge that is Rajiv Gandhi was killed trying to make peace before the country that Indira Gandhi gave his life for. Congress and the country have the same DNA,” Gaylot said.
