Bangalore:

Vigorous clashes erupted between Congress and BJP workers in Bengaluru on Friday over an event celebrating Ugadi, sources said.

Sources said the Congress staff had sought permission from the city’s civic agency to hold a party at the BGS grounds in Vijaynagar on March 19 to celebrate Ugadi – which was opposed by opposition staff.

BJP workers confronted them when they began putting up posters and banners at the event venue.

The quarrel quickly escalated into a fight, with both sides attacking each other with stones and sticks, injuring several people.

A video shows police having to resort to lathicharge to disperse them.

The injured were taken to a hospital near the area, the officials said, adding that they were treated and released.
