Kathua/Jammu:
A policeman died in a hospital hours after he was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation on corruption charges in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district on Saturday, officials said.
Police chief Mustaq Ahmad, a resident of Bilawal, was arrested on the spot when he was allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 3,000 from a complainant at the women’s police station in Katuwa, officials said.
They said the officer was questioned by CBI detectives in a separate room inside the police station when he complained of agitation and was taken to Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital for treatment.
However, he died in hospital, officials said, adding that the cause of death was not yet known.
Police Station Constable Kiran Devi confirmed the officer’s death.
“The policeman passed away shortly after we transferred him to the hospital. A detailed report will be shared later,” she told PTI.
