New York:

Former U.S. President Donald Trump said he expected to be “arrested” on Tuesday for allegedly making hush money payments to a porn star ahead of the 2016 election and called on his supporters to protest.

On Saturday morning, Trump took to his Truth Social platform, citing a “leaked” message from the Manhattan District Attorney’s office: “The leading Republican candidate and former president of the United States of America will be arrested next Tuesday. Protest, take away our The country backs off!”

The investigation focused on a $130,000 payment in the weeks leading up to the 2016 polls to prevent Stormy Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, from going public with what she said was an affair she had with Trump years ago.

Prosecutors are weighing whether to charge Trump in the case.

If the Manhattan district attorney charges Trump, the 76-year-old would become the first former president to be charged with a crime.

Trump’s lawyer told CNBC late Friday that if his client is indicted by a Manhattan grand jury, he will turn himself in to face criminal charges.

In his capitalized post, Trump referred to “illegal leaks from the corrupt and highly politicized Manhattan District Attorney’s Office.”
