Mumbai:
Six people are being questioned over the discovery of the decomposing body of a 53-year-old woman stuffed in a plastic bag in the Lal Fort area of Mumbai.
Although the victim’s daughter was arrested in connection with the murder, an investigator said, “We believe that the woman accused in this murder did not act alone and that she must have been assisted by someone.”
The accused daughter was identified as Rimple Jain.
Earlier, on March 15, police in Kalachowki, Mumbai arrested the victim’s daughter after finding knives and a pocket knife from the house.
“Mumbai’s Kalachowki police arrested the victim’s daughter after registering the case under Section 302 of the IPC (Murder) and Arms Act,” an official said earlier.
According to police, the defendant dismembered her mother’s body using a marble cutter purchased from Lalbaug.
The defendant told police during the interrogation that she panicked after being killed and after saving the body for two days, she decided to chop it up for disposal.
“In order to avoid the stench from the decomposing corpse, the accused daughter watched a video online and adopted the method shown in the video to keep the corpse fresh,” the official said.
Detectives said they believe the woman was murdered in December last year.
“After the woman was killed, her arms and legs were chopped off. This was done with knives and a pocket knife recovered from the house,” an officer said.
Further details are awaited.
